AA864, parts came from all over: Weber (transformers and 12A100T speaker), Antique Electronics (some board components, tube sockets etc), Turretboards.com, Marsh Amplification (chassis) tubes from ebay and my private collection and the cab is custom made from a very talented guy in Jacksonville, FL.

Yes, looks very nice. Dare I ask how much it costs to actually build a VC from parts, compared to buying one?

Well, building an amp from scratch is never going to save money. If you use the best parts you can afford (except for the trannies, I could have gone with Mercury) you're gonna wind up spending more than you thought. This one cost right at 500 bucks. Being what it is with a 12" alnico Weber, PTP in a custom cab, it could bring more than that if I were to put in on ebay. :)

Nice looking amp, if it sounds like it looks then its a winner. Plus having the 12inch speaker is so much better than the small speaker that normally comes with a real VC.
I sold a late 60's mint shape VC on Ebay in 1999 for $120.00 and here are what they sell on ebay for today

i know about MM champ iron. i bought one of every champ PT and OT that they make for my "champology" project.
i wish i could share your confidence that its easy to get your money back out of a homebrew by selling it on ebay. everyone who i've ever seen selling a homebuilt amp has taken a bath on the transaction. with my luck, i just wouldn't consider trying it.

Unless you are buying your parts in bulk, trying to build just one amp with the intention of "getting your money back" is tough.I think for most people it is the satisfaction of building and actually having the amp sound great is the deal.I have built six amps for people and even tho I was making a couple of bucks,it was quite hard to part with them.I have a dozen different clones I built for myself and my sons and have been offered stupid money for some of them, but I just cant part with them, its like they are your kids.Beautiful amp by the way Steve, bet it sounds as good as it looks. Those Weber speakers are great, aint they?
