LOL!

Wanna hear a sad, pitiful story? My senior high school class voted this as *their* song. :(

LOL....cool shirt

Steve, I'm not sure of how old you are but in Englad Skynyrd played there back in 1976 and had Steve Gains on guitar on that concert. I have the concert on DVD and I can say, out of all the concerts I have seen in person or on DVD that Skynyrd was one of the best concerts I have seen.

The musicianship is awesome to saythe least. Shame that a plane crash took so many talented people :(

Oh, you're from the UP, we won't use any big words then...

ANyway, just a thought. Right click the picture, then select properties. The URL for the image is there. Looks like a web site you could check out - Cafe Press.

Yes, it's from Cafe Press, and there are about a bazillion others like it.

I wasn't even born in 1976, and I think of Metallica and Aphex Twin the same way you guys think of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin. :D

In the Pixar movie "Cars", there's a scene where Lightnin' McQueen has to do a meet-and-greet for his sponsors, Rust-Eeze. He gets on stage, the lights go out, and in the brief pause before he starts to speak, a confused pickup truck in the back row yells, "Free Bird!!!".
We took our kids to a drive-in to see the movie, and I almost spit my pop all over the inside of the windshield. Had to explain to my wife who the "Free Bird" guy was.

First off, thank you Enzo for your understanding!!!!

Secondly, I laugh because I still hear that at least once a month!! Unfortunately, people really mean it. Even after being played a million times on the radio, people still request skynyrd at a few of the bars around here. (Which pretty much explains Enzo's comment).

Anyway, thanks for the link, but I think I'm gonna go for the "No we don't play Freebird" shirt.

Don't feel bad, Steve, a lot of us were not born in 1976. I wasn't born in 1976. 1947 yes, but not 1976.

For Xmas, I got my teenage niece a shirt that said "Your favorite band sucks."

LOL...."Your favorite band sucks. Good one .....

Oh what a time in history :o , 1976, I was 14 going on 15, movies like Monty Python and the Holy grail, Jaws. Smoking pot from a bong, George Carlin and Richard Pryor, Foghat and Areosmith, Don Kishners rock concert, long hair for the teens, me included, dating a girl that puts out :p game rooms that had pinball machines with KISS and Ted Nugent on the front top part, foosball tables and pool tables. Led Zeppelin on the juke box, Gameroom walls painted black with black lights and black light posters with those odd 70's designs. Buying records, partying all night to any cool music from that time frame....when FM had Steely Dan, Heart, Grand Funk, rock n roll hoochie coo, FREEBIRD :o

TV shows like Sanford and Son, reruns of Gilligans Island. I think the movie (Dazed and Confused) is pretty close to that time frame. Life was good :)

This list could go on.

I went out and bought a "DVD Double Feature" with "Freebird-The Movie" and "The Tribute Tour".

"The Movie" was actually pretty good. A documantary type thing with a lot of background info and clips, and a bunch of tunes from various venues...a lot from a concert in England. Tight, inspired playing. Good sounds from the live Peavey ad! Like a lot of folks, I was completely burned out on Skynyrd, and couldn't care less if I never heard ANY Skynyrd tune for the next ten years. Let alone play any of them in a band. And there are few bands whose live albums are as good, or better, than their studio stuff. The "One More From The Road" is a good example. Seger's "Live Bullet" is another. There's a reason why nobody sounds like original Skynyrd....

Which brings us to "The Tribute". YIKES!!! That thing was hard to watch...almost excruciating! NEARLY as bad as that PBS thing with John Kay mumbling old Steppenwolf songs! Too polite of tones...lackluster performance...and Johnny just AIN'T Ronnie! I've actually heard cover bands do a better job of covering Skynyrd than this!

Would have been better off leaving the legacy intact, instead of trying to capitalize on the past glories and diluting the memory and the music. Two thumbs down on this one!

And I STILL don't particularly want to hear or play Freebird!:D

Brad,
Your right about the tribute concert, it wasn’t very good at all. I couldn't finish watching it either.

I was referring to the LS 1976 England concert being one of the best. I seen many bands growing up and some bands have a good studio sound but suck in concert, like Black Sabbath for instance, they have good studio sound but not very good in concert and boring to watch. Skynyrd sounds just like the album in concert. I wasn't a big Skynyrd fan growing up but I did like their music. Freebird has been beaten to death on FM airplay so yeah, it's stale but there are many other good tunes from LS that never it the airwaves.

I never could figure out why LS recruited Johnny VZ to try and sing Ronny's stuff??? Johnny can’t even compare.
