Hello Everyone!
I just finished building my second tube amp (it's a '59 bassman knockoff---just a head, not a combo) and i hooked it up for the first time today. It sounds great, but all of the pots (except for the presence pot) are operating in reverse! For example...the volume is quiet when turned full clockwise and gets louder as it is turned counter-clockwise. I have double & triple checked all wiring and can't see anything wired incorrectly. This project was built from Tino Zottola's book (Building Vacuum Guitar & Bass Amps Vol 1). I have no clue what might be wrong. Has anyone out there ever had this problem before?

Did you check that the shield(ground) side of the pot is on the left looking from the front(knob) side?

The only logical explanation is that you have the left and right pot terminal wiring reversed. I suggest that you refer to the layout diagram at http://www.schematicheaven.com/fenderamps/bassman_5f6a_schem.pdf and check your wiring again.
Did you check that the shield(ground) side of the pot is on the left looking from the front(knob) side?
Just to clarify, if that were the case (we are talking the volume pot here) then the wiring would be incorrect. The grounded volume pot terminal should be the one on the left when viewed from the back of the pot. OK?
HTH,
Tom
Legs up or legs down? I hate to use terms like left and right.
And no remarks about my social life.

Good point. I was referring to the view with the legs up.
Probably best for Snake to just refer to the diagram. Or better yet, visualize how a pot is contructed and what is happening when the shaft is turned.

I oughtta do that to ALL my amps! Then when Zuzu comes over, he won't try to blow things up when he grabs all the knobs and tries to turn EVERYthing to full! It'll be the first time I can tell him..."Go ahead...CRANK IT!"

Did Zuzu have anything to do with it? He looks kinda backwards sometimes. ;)

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. Based on your suggestions, I reversed the wiring on the outer posts and all the pots are now operating as they should. It seems that the orientation of the posts on the wiring diagram in Tino Zottola's book are incorrect for proper wiring, so if any of you build projects from his books, keep that in mind. I mean no disrespect to Tino by the way. His books are awesome! Thanks again y'all!
