How much can I change the layout of a 5e3 without substantial risk? Attached is what I am currently thinking about.

Without studying your proposed revisions in detail, I would say that the 5E3 is not a high-gain amp so the layout is not as critical as it might be otherwise. However, you should pay attention to the location and orientation of the transformers, since that can cause problems- you also need to follow a good grounding scheme. (Leo's designs have survived for many years- he must have been doing *something* right! :eek: )
Good luck!

Forgive me for being simple minded, but substantial risk OF WHAT?????
Oscillation? Overheating? Motorboating? Canoeing? Meteor showers? Cold showers?

I'd prefer *these* avatars but 80x80 pixels doesn't do them justice...

I'm new to this game; I'm not sure how deep the pitfalls are -or even thuroughy what they are- but mainly I was thinking parasitic oscillations. Sounds like it should be all right, though.
Cheers.

I built one with an 11'' <--> chassis...works great.
Built another in an aluminum chassis, 19'', but whipped the board together @ 180,...so I ended up putting the pilot light is on the right hand side, and the board is upside down in there...I kinda built the board backwards and compensated, this one works fine also...

Hmmm, why does "parasitic oscillations" make me think of break dancing tapeworms? Must be something I "et" last night <grin>.
