Any interest in 0.15mfd "Tropical Fish" caps?

By good price, I mean REALLY SCREAMIN' GOOD PRICE. ;D
Price directly depends on how many I get, but there are a bunch of these available right now.
By a bunch, I mean in the hundreds, maybe more

No other values sorry, just the .15mfd.
I wish I could snab a big selection of values but that's not likely going to happen.

If there's any interest, just post here first.
If I see it's worth grabbing the lot of them I'll take the process to the next level.

you could probably make a bit of money if you can get them for surplus type prices. The wah values (.22uF, .01uF) seem to be the most popular (and valuable) but those in general seem to have a bit of a premium.

I'm not looking to get rich on these, just share a good deal on something that doesn't come up very often. I'd love to find a bunch of .22s & .01s though. ;D I've seen them, but they go for between $3.75 & $6 each + shipping (one guy on ebay wants $6 shipping for 2 of them).

I posted this on a few other boards as well and it looks like I'll be getting at least a few hundred of these. Less than 100 at a crack they're about $1.25 each (not a bad price), but in lots of 100 that goes down to about 45 cents each (give or take a few cents). I'm waiting on a reply of my request of how many they actually have as well as another price break at 1000 or more.

I'll keep everyone posted as I get more info.

Just got the callback on price. They have a total of 2850 of these (actually they said "about 2850").
I also asked about any other values of tropical fish caps like these and the answer was no - just these .15uf.

In lots of 1000, price is down to only $0.26 each. That's $260 for 1,000 of these. A few people have asked me about 'resale pricing' well, there ya go! You can sell them for over 10X that if you buy 1,000 of them.
For this many, I'll try to stuff them in one of those USPS Flat Rate Priority boxes that cost $8.95 for anything it'll hold up to 70 pounds - anywhere in the US.

Price for lots of 100 will be $0.75 each. That's $75 for 100 of these + shipping. I'm sure this many will fit in a small box and not cost more than a few $ to ship CONUS.

I don't want to mess around with counting out or mailing individual caps in a lot this big, especially considering the price and how many people will want just one or two. If you only want a few, make it 10 for $1.25 each + $2 shipping. Total price for ten .15uf Tropical Fish caps would be $14.50 delivered USA.

Canada shipping shouldn't be much more, maybe about 25% more than average US if anything. Because of my central US location, it can sometimes be cheaper to ship to central Canada than some places in the US.

I didn't mind keeping track of 25 compressor chips last spring, but this is for a LOT of caps. I'd rather not resort to retail pricing just to get them to everyone because of the hassle counting out 1 here, 3 here, 2 here .... I DO have a life. Wink

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the deal with these caps? .15uf 200v This must be a common value for something that you plan to use them on, what is it?

Any reason why these wouldn't work just as well?

The caps I posted links to are readily available at Mouser for substantially less than the pretty colored caps. I'm not into the boutique wha pedal market, are these the shiznit there or something? Inquiring minds want to know.

I don't know either, and I don't care. I don't believe that a tropical fish capacitor sounds any different to an orange drop, blue brick, green pustule, or whatever. They're all just plastic film caps.

I could go on all day about the strengths and weaknesses of all the different kinds of plastic film caps in RF, power and pulse applications, but I don't believe they are relevant to audio circuits.

These are for restorers and vintage repairs when new stuff isn't acceptable for one reason or another. I offered them here because I know there are a few of those guys here, I just have no idea how many are looking for actual vintage parts for repairs using only NOS parts. They work & sound fine, whether they're better or not is up to the listener. If you restore old radios, amps, ham gear, etc., and you only want the real deal for restoration value, then these are it. Building guitar effects or a home made amp with them is arguably somewhat pointless.

They were often used in old radios, phonographs, ham equipment and lots of other post WWII electronics. These were common caps in their day but haven't been in production for about 50 years. If you're looking for them in old amps or anything else, my guess is you'd have to start around 1955 and go backward from there. Sorry, I can't tell you what model of various these were standard issue in, only the era they were produced.
