Getting nowhere in choosing these speakers. and the completed amp chassis will be here in a few days....
where I am situated [australia] there is nothing available locally to listen to and limited availlability to buy locally. what is available is ridculously over priced so it looks like another import buy in the dark...
i did this recently with a well recomended jensen P12Q RI and didnt go for the farty bass sound when driven hard - did sound sweet at low volume [5e3 clone]
i see main contenders as:
weber 10A125 - they wont send here as we have a local distributor - the local weber guy is really lame with no phone and answers email bimonthly - would buy em if i could get em [his price is more than double us price]
eminence - ragin cajuns - can get em easy - eminence have a confusing range of speakers with natty names and funky looks which make me a bit wary
celestion G10 - i love v30's - mojo's got em and will work out expensive - also made in china
fender 10" alnico blues - cheap from musicians friend - [are they???] prolly also made in china
any one else want to add to the confusion? or help clarify things?
i had read good reports on the weber and celestion - seems to be a bit of positive chatter about for eminence....
thanks

I have a mix of an older Weber C10Q I had on hand and a new Eminence Copperhead. The Weber is much more wide-range, I think, and the Copperhead seems to smooth the tone quite a bit.

YMMV, so keep in mind "different strokes for different folks" but, I used a couple of those cheaper Eminence 1028K Alnico 10"s in a 5F4 Super and they sounded pretty good, but a mix of the Emi Alnico 1028K and their 10" ceramic 1058 sounded even better to me.
It took about 2 or 3 hours of hard playing to smooth the tone out, but a good sound from that point on.
And did I mention the price was less then I expected.

The Ragin Cajun is a more sensitive and louder speaker though, so two of those will make the amp sound like a 40-50 watter.

I forgot to mention that the old Fender blue frame Alnico was an Eminence speaker, made in the USA. ... probably the same 1058K speaker but with a color change on the basket so they could
have a different part number and make it look like a proprietary item.

interesting to see you around here old picker
i couldn't find much in terms of speakers in australia, so i took advantage of my father going to america on a buisness trip, so i had some speakers shipped to him from warehouse guitar speakers. cheap speakers that alot of people have been raving about. havent made my cab yet so there sitting in 2 boxes in the corner of my room. the speakers are cheap (i got the 10" ones, 28$american each, apparently they sound just like the vintage speakers they are basing the designs on)
being that cheap and the exchange rate where it is right now it wouldnt be a bad move, even if shipping is going to be a fair chunk.

thats them there, they sell mainly from ebay i believe. search them on this forum or somewhere else to see what people say about them

even though i am a old dude i do a lot of sniffin round :D
i been mainly doin amp stuff lately and got the lil dawg 5e3 up at a gig sat nite -
i never heard such a tone b4 -
rich and complex with all sorts of harmonics overtones - i am running a v30 which is a bit dark and was hunting highs all nite...gonna try it with a lorantz 12" built in the old plessy rola plant here in melbourne -used rola speakers in the 60's and 70's - they were great...its a pretty bright 50 watter at A$140.00
as far as bringin in cheapies i guess i feel if you gonna spend that much on frieght why not get something special - like a weber or alnico blue

i know what your saying, but from what ive read, theyre just as good as the celestion speakers. someone on this site did a review of the greenback clones with them side by side and had no preference. im a uni student so i got them due to the value, but apparently they sound great.

I swapped-out the RedFang in my hotrodded 5E3 for one of the WarehouseGuitarSpeakers "Lead 80"s......added some much-need presence.

I've bought and used a bunch of those Wharehouse Speakers over the last year and although I've had a few duds
right out of the box, :( ...the rest of the ones that worked, sounded very good... especially for the price.

if i import two warehouse speakers to australia and 1 is a dud by the time i send back and get another shipped out the extra cost would have bought a more reliable speaker....so thanks for that - i think i'll pass on that one

The three duds have been due to what I think was obvious inadequate packing... boxes with crunched corners, slammed in shipping, speakers and voice coils loose resulting in totally unusable speakers.
I never had this problem when using Eminence or Jensen reissue speakers.

Old thread, but new info:
I just received a pair of WarehouseGuitarSpeakers 10-inch models fo my 5F4 clone (about 40 watts).
Dave at Warehouse says there shouldn't be a problem using them in that amp.
Cheap, too, at < $80 US for the pair, shipped.
