Electro Harmonix The Clone Theory Stereo Chorus pedal

Hi I just got one of these, and it has lots of hiss.
In bypass mode it is absolutely quiet but as soon as I push the footswitch it shows a lot of hiss. Maybe this is normal. Is there a way to reduce such noise?
Could it be because I use it in mono (it is a stereo pedal)
The effect is nice, but...

In my experience, there are many things that can cause hiss. Sometimes it is as simple as adjusting the BBD bias and sometimes its more difficult to troubleshoot; like I've seen resistors cause hiss and even a SAD1024 cause hiss.

Start with the simple stuff by cracking open the pedal and plug everything in. Turn your amp on and the effect on. Adjust each internal pot to see if the hiss is reduced. Before starting though, mark a spot where the original wiper position is located. Also, make sure your input and output jacks are clean..especially on the inner sleeve of the jacks. If this doesn't help your hiss could be deeper.

Is it one of the new ones in the cast-aluminum chassis? If so, I think the problem may well be the power supply.

More and more, EHX has been migrating to digitally-based effects (as have most major pedalmakers). Occasionally, such effects will manifest noise when using the "wrong" power supply, or when two or more digital pedals share the same power supply. I have the very same problem with my Line 6 pedals.

I'm not saying that IS the problem, but certainly consider it as a possibility. One way to tell is if you are powering the pedal off a shared supply, try powering it off its own adaptor (or simply unplug the other pedals sharing the supply).

Mark, it is one of the new ones you mention, with a cast-aluminium enclosure.
I tried to power it from a cell, and still makes lots of hiss.
I guess "someone" sold me a defective one :(
