what are the procedures for converting el34 to 6L6, or preferably 6V6?

So an update on what just happened. I noticed the only difference layout wise is pin 1 between the tubes. el34 pin 1 is suppressor grid, where 6l6 has no connection. instead, its suppresssor grid shares pin 8 with the cathode. well in my amp, pin 1 and pin 8 were already connected, so being the curious and anxious student i am i decided to put in some 6l6's and give it a whirl. well after about 7 seconds of being, flames appeared! I have never experienced actual flames until now, and it was rather neat. I believe the 3000 ohm power resistor that caught on fire was the screen grid resistor. It APPEARS that everything else seems fine, but i really dont know.

The bias level for the EL34 would have been way too low for the 6L6, so the 6L6 burnt itself up. To do such swaps you would need your bias to be adjustable.
