Baffle Mounting - 5e3 cab build

Hi, I'm about to start a cabinet for a 5e3 and I'm curious about the method of mounting the baffle. The standard method has the baffle attached to just the top and bottom front panels. Is this the best way or simply the original way?

It would seem to be better for cabinet resonation to have the baffle solidly attached to the cabinet on all sides, with no grill cloth between baffle and cab.
Grill could be mounted separately - like later designs.

Or....makes no difference?

Looks like tweed style is a "floating baffle" and floating is good. Guess that's what I'll do..........

Guess that's what I'll do..........Use 3/8" thick Baltic Birch plywood for the baffle and 3/8" plywood strips ripped to 1.5" wide.... as a four piece surround (frame) mounted flat to the outside perimeter of the baffle board, which will keep the grille cloth off the baffle.
The 5E3 will sound a little tighter if you also cut some 6" long 3/4"X1" cleats and mount them to the inside of the carcass vertical sides and then screw the baffle board to them with a could screws on each.... so as to lock up the vertical sides of the baffle board.
Not the classic tweed cabinet tone but still a nice mechanical mod that adds a little punch to the tone.

Thanks Bruce, Sounds like I can add those secondary side cleats in after I've heard it as original. I will probably prefer the tighter sound.
