Anybody have any idea why caps like these would have been made?

I paid $400 for a huge box of 'em, only to find :eek: this. :( Sellin' 'em on eBay now for who knows what, probably next to nothing? I'll see; auction closes tomorrow.

(my guess) one end on PCB, other end to panel (pot, switch, etc.)

In case you can use them.Why is anyone interested in these caps?
I've had nothing but problems with them when refurbishing any amps or audio equipment that had them in them.
Is there some collector's value or something?
I mean I have always been under the impression they were cheap junk.

from their use in old effects but probably mainly due to being found in old wahs. They look neat but it looks to me when they came out they were just intended to be a cheap cap (metal polyester). The series that followed (from the manf. Philips) is orange instead of the stripes as far as I know.
