Someone is selling one of these dirt cheap, but I was wondering what was under the hood... [groan!]

A quick perusal of user reviews at Harmony Central indicated that the amp might not be that loud (especially considering the quartet of 6L6GC output tubes). One person said that his 30 watt amplifier seemed to be louder than it.

Not that I'm looking for a lot of power, but the amp weighs about 66 pounds, so for that kind of weight I'd like to get as much volume out of it as possible. It does come with casters, which would make it easier to move...

The output tubes are supposedly self-biasing, although I don't know if that means that they are Class A/cathode biased. I have a hunch that they are fixed biased, and with the bias set very cold, just like the Classic 30. So by changing the bias set resistor (or making it adjustable) you might be able to increase the volume of this amp.

BTW this amp was designed by James Brown who designed the Classic 30 and 50 amps for Peavey. Unfortuneately there is not a lot of information about it on the Kustom site- not even an owners manual to download. :(

Any information on this amp would appreciated!

P.S. I wonder how much less the amp would weigh if I replaced the two 12" speakers with Neo's...

Steve:
Try over to the Vintage Kustom board. There have been a few discussions about these amps over there.

Thanks! That came up in a Google search, but I just (erroneously) assumed that it only dealt with the older amps...
