What can y'all tell me about these things? Or other types of "Magic Eye" tubes? I found tidbits of info on a couple other sites. It looks like the EM 800 is a 9-pin mini with one normal triode and another triode that does the display-part. Could I use this as part of a preamp? Does it fit a "standard" (for guitar amps) 9-pin socket? Any ideas where to buy these? They just look insanely cool!
Thanx!

Check out some of this info.

Here's Steve Bench's site. Search for eye when you go there.

Here's a level indicator made out of one

You could use the triode as a gain stage, and drive the target at the same time I suppose. I have always wanted to try it, but all the eye tubes I have are the round type, and they're not as dramatic looking when they swing.

The Trace Elliot V8 Bass amp has one of those for a VU meter.

Thanx for the info! Especially the level meter, just what I was thinking of! Any more links/info would be great. How much signal do you suppose it takes to drive one of these things? Would you feed it a preamp-level signal or would you take it from the output, or maybe from the bias? Any old hi-fi schems that might illustrate how they're used?
Thanx!
