Hello
I have a fender G-dec 15 watt amp
Wanting to change the volumepotmeter
because it's broken, I think (Cannot turn down volume)
anybody know if it is a logarithmic or a Linear potmeter ?
The Schematic says only 10 KOhms
The Potmeter itself is marked "b 103"
Any Ideas for a replacement ?
Appreciate all help

I'm 90% sure "b" means linear.

Hi,
on this side of the ocean "A" stands for linear, "B" for logarithmic.

In that case, I'd just measure the resistance at 50% rotation. If it's 50% of the marked value, then it's linear.

Yeah.
that seems fair
thanks alot

In that case, I'd just measure the resistance at 50% rotation. If it's 50% of the marked value, then it's linear.
That would be enough only to draw a line between linear and audio, so it' s ok if the indicated taper complies with the standards, but keep in mind there are some pots with weird tapers ( though I' d say this is not your case ) such as semi-logarithmic ( which are linear up to 50% of the taper and then become logarithmic for the rest of the wiper's travel ) or semi exponential, so, IMHO, the best way to state the true pot' s taper is to use a needle ( analog ) Ohmmeter, ( set to the proper scale and connected between one of the outer lugs and the wiper ), mark the shaft with a permanent felt tip pen and take note of resistance variation at different angles ( standard pots have a 270 degrees rotation field ).
Hope this helps
Best regards
Bob
