Slower speed

I have just finished building my first winder. Quite excited as I'm sure anyone who has done so can relate. I am using a sewing motor and footpedal. The footpedal is not adjustable as it simply connects or disconnects the power completely... there is not in b/t. Anyone know how I might hotrod a speed control w/ one of these? I tried a lamp in series but it clamped the current so much that the motor would not run at all.

Is this not a sewing machine pedal? Or, have you hooked up the wrong contacts somehow? Do you have a pic of the pedal and connections? Usually all sewing machine pedals are inductive and are variable.

I used a lamp dimming module from an old Torshire floor lamp, works great.

I did end up adding the foot controller back on to use it for slow start-up, and now the lamp-dimmer control acts as a speed limiter.

I use a "router speed control" that I bought from harbor freight for $14.99...you just plug the power chord from your "Winder" into it and then plug the speed control into the outlet. It has a very fine adjustment so you can get a good slow start...

That wouldn't work for me, I have other things powered from my line cord, but it should work for anybody running just the winder motor.

You're right...I have my motor on a separate plug from my counter.
