Hi Steve,

I dont' have a great deal of time to follow up with threads that might be of interest - and often are, and tend to look at the group or thread which I last read.

I'm not familiar with what can be done with the software used to host sites so here's the quick question.

I wondered if it was possible to have another link from the front page that could show all of the unread posts in a list. A "Catch up" feature to mark them all as read would be as good as a Christmas present.

Best none rude site on the internet
:)

I've been perusing the latest Musician's Friend catalog. I haven't looked at one of these for a couple of years. I was stunned by how much gear is available now. Brands I've never seen before. I can't imagine starting out today & having to sift through all of this.

I got out a piece of paper and starting counting.

The November 2009 Musician's Friend catalog has (by my count):

279 Electric Guitars
143 Electric Guitar Amps
242 Electric Guitar Pedals

:surprised::exclaim:

This does not include:
Acoustic guitars or their amps & processors
Bass guitars or their amps & processors
Rack mount gear
Switching only pedals
Speaker Cabs

:surprised::exclaim:

Going through some old hard drives I came across a picture I took of some bar cheese. Bar Cheese is a term used around town to define the substances that accumulate in band gear after years of gigging in bars.

It could be grimy, fuzzy, groady, or stainey
It comes in all colors, grey, white, yellow, green, etc.

In this case, it is a fuzzy Grey floor monitor and amp.

DAVID KILLICK
November 07, 2009 02:00am

A HUGE iceberg has been spotted off Macquarie Island, halfway between Antarctica and Australia.

The iceberg, estimated to be 500m long and 50m high, was spotted about eight kilometres north-west of the island by Australian Antarctic Division expeditioners this week.
Fur seal biologist Dean Miller was the first to see the iceberg while on his way to visit a seal colony at the island's North Head.

"I've never seen anything like it -- we looked out to the horizon and just saw this huge floating island of ice," Dr Miller said on the AAD website.

"It was a monumental moment for me as it was the first iceberg I have seen."

Glaciologist Neal Young said icebergs were a rare sight at Macquarie Island.

"This is the first I can recall being sighted from Macquarie Island for many, many years," Dr Young said.

He said it was likely to be part of a massive berg that broke off the Ross Ice Shelf eight or nine years ago.

"It's come up from the area generally south of us. I would expect it's part of one of the large ones which came off the ice shelf because of its shape and size," he said.

"It's very much a tabular iceberg with vertical sides -- it's not long out of the Antarctic.

"It could well go up quite close to New Zealand or it might circle round in an eddy or gyre."

The berg was not yet a danger to shipping, although it could pose a hazard as it broke up over the next six months to two years.

"When it starts to break up, which it will do eventually, it will break into many pieces and those are the real danger," Dr Young said.

And it was possible such bergs could become more frequently sighted in coming years.

"It would become more common if climate change continues the way it's been going," he said. "We could anticipate the ice shelves to break up over a long period of time."

A Tasmanian state reserve, Macquarie Island lies 1500km south-south-east of Hobart.

I can play the lead easily enough - that bit is not the problem it is the chords in behind it.

I think I've got most of them, but I know there are some I can't quite git. I looked all round the net and couldn't find a single chord tab for this, so I had a go over the last 6 months of listening and re-listening and tabbing and re-tabbing and re-re-tabbing (til I'm fed up with tryin' to tab it), but I still don't have it quite there yet. If anyone else'd care to have a look at what I've done and maybe if you know you could kindly tell me where I've gone wrong. These old ears ain't what they used to be. The bits I'm the least certain about are the chords for last lines of the 2nd and 3rd verses.

Not that I typically care for pinpoint accuracy in my own interpretations of other songs, but I would really like to know specifically what they were playing in the background, purely for my own edification

Any ideas/comments gratefully received

Cheers
