VOX vintage tone speaker

hello to everybody,
as i like very much the Hank Marvin (of the Shadows) strat tone, I 've planned to build a VOX AC4 clone in the hope to get close to the Hank's typical sound.
My AC4 version will be without tremolo, just the EF86 pre and the EL84 output tube, in head arrangement to prevent EF86 microfonics issues.

Now i ask suggestion about what speaker would be suitable for such amp?

I know that Celestion blu alnico 12"/15Watt is the classical choice for that kind of tone, but i would prefer to use a speaker not bigger than 10" (eventually even an 8") and not so expensive as a Celestion.

I heard that Jensen produces a line of speakers called MOD in America and CH in Europe (but they are exactly the same) and they are told to be good sounding and a bit british.
Did anybody try them?
Are there better alternatives ?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Hi all first thread so :calm: please be easy. I am about to begin building a speaker cabinet for my senior project. I have been searching and just havent found what im looking for. I have been talking with my guitar teacher at school and he suggests I build a 4x10. I would like to know some information on what in your opinion would be the best speaker(s) for me to work around. I have always loved and will be looking for a Gilmour, or knopfler style sound. I have read Gilmour used Fane 12inch. So wich speakers would be a good safe bet. AXA10A's? Celestion G10? G10 Gold? tube 10? please help

Hi everyone,

Just wondering, are there any hard fast rules on Power tube spacing, (or pre-amp for that matter) for a push-pull amp? I'm building a Princeton based amp, with 2 6v6's. I measured the distance between the tubes on my Deluxe Reverb RI and they are about 2 1/2" apart. Can I run them a little closer together to save some space, or will this cause trouble down the road? Thanks in advance!

I'm a father of crazy teenagers & like many other teens they tend to suffer from brain damage & like to listen to (c)rap music, build "Fast & Furious" tuner cars & install insanely high decibel, ear drum shattering stereo systems you can coming from 4 blocks away. Now before I get "flamed" for going off topic here's my question. In these stereo systems they install these huge electrolytic caps... I think a typical value would be like 1 farad with a gazillion wvdc rating placed behind a bevy of power amps shunted to ground. With these babys in place you get enough bass to make a Lincoln jump around like it was one of those tiny little plastic football player figurines on the metal vibrating playing fields my childhood friends & I would play with after school (c'mon, I know some of you guys have to remember those.) Anyway I was wondering if anything like this (on a smaller scale of course... I'm not wanting to be heard in orbit, just a nice "thump" especially for a tube bass amp) has ever been incorporated into an instrument amps design & what formula you would use to calculate the value of the cap needed for the desired effect? So ok ye great & powerful wizards of amps... any thoughts here? Oh & before you ask, remember I stated I'm the father of teenagers & I grew up in the 70's, so yes not all of my synapses are still firing these days.

I'm looking for circuit recommendations using mostly parts I have on hand from this donor chassis - has PT, SE OPT, 5Y3, 6l6, a couple 12AX7s. I have a misc collection of other driver tubes but would like to stay with the 6L6 output.

I've built a fender champ clone and a fender deluxe clone in the past so I have that experience behind me. I'm looking for a circuit that's fairly simple but generally well regarded.

Ideas?
