  • popping sound from the amp after 10 min.

I have a Peavey TNT 115 bought in '94 with 9 band EQ, chorus, H/L gain, cross over.
A month ago it would make a popping noise either while playing or not ( one or two pops) then last week it started popping four times in a row while not playing, so I turned it off for a couple of minutes and then back on but the popping just started back up. It rarely gets move and it gets used about an hour and a half per week ( it is left at my church).
Is there anything I can do or look at on the meter?? what do I need to know if I need to take it in and have it fixed??

Thanks for any advice or help,

It could be a lot of things. Turn all the controls to zero. Does the noise still happen? If so it is in the power amp. It is not like there are tubes to change in sockets in there. Pretty much anything wrong inside needs a technician. All the tech needs is a clear description of the problem.

I did as you said and there was no popping sound after an hour of being on. I then turned it off and turned it on this morning (Tuesday) with the way I have it set and after a half hr with nothing I plugged the bass in and let it set another hour, then I played it for about 15 min and nothing so I let it set for another hour with the bass vol up, amp on with its setting and still nothing. Right now I don't know what to do.

The church has a three phase system for the electrical and could that cause it amp to pop like that ????

The wild leg of a three phase system is 208V to neutral instead of 120V I believe. If I had a doubt I would take a multimeter and check the outlets in question.

It is more likely if you have had an electrician doing work in the building recently.

One time I accidently hooked up a new Church ceiling fan to the wild leg. It ran for two weeks before burning out.
