question : are 1n4005 diodes ok for twin reverb?

I was tweaking a guys silver face twin yesterday and saw an arc at the diodes on power up. long story short: I had to go to radio shack to get a new diode but could only get a 1n4005. Its rated at 600volts so I figured it would be ok. I had to replace the first diode connected to the power tranny red wire. Its in one of the rows of three diodes.

Got his amp working but do I need to order and put a in 1n4007 instead?

Should I replace all of them?

Will replacing them change the response of the amp?

I am by no means an amplifier expert, but I have built and serviced my own tube amps.
The 1N4005 is rated at 600v while the 1N4007 is rated at 1000volts.
That being said, for a twin it's coming close but should be within limits.
If it were mine, it would haunt me (should I have?). I would order the 007's and have piece of mind. As far as I know, these are the ones mostly everyone uses anyway.
I have nothing to do with them but have used them several times for parts, go to http://tubedepot.com/index.html (tube depot) they have the diodes for 15 cents each and their shipping is only 4 dollars on a total order, so it might be worth it to grab a couple of extra things from them, too.
they ship lightning fast, I always wind up getting my stuff in two days here in New York and everything is bagged and tagged and packed well.
i may have gone off subject here but just wanted to help you out.

I think he is talking about an amp that has 3 diodes in series on each side, so 600V diodes should be ok.
But if I had an amp with a diode failure, I'd replace them all.

I agree, but my permanent solution is a single 6A10 diode in place of all three 1N4007's. Haven't had a failure yet. Just bend the ends to fit the eyelets and it will span from the first hole to the last hole.

More importantly is they are both 1amp diodes, with 3 in series the 600v should be fine.
Just replace all as they are only pennies each...okay maybe a little more at rat shack.
