  • 6ax5 rectifier tube

does anyone know if this tube fits in the same octal socket as a 5AR4, 5Y3 etc...? Also will this tube work in a blackface Bandmaster? I'm thinking of using it because I will not need another filament xformer.

That'll be a 6.3V rectifier - even though you could run it off your heater winding, it is probably advisable for it to have its own 6.3V winding.

The 6X5 rectifiers are all full wave as far as I am aware and have a different pin-out to your typical 5V (5Y3GT, 5AR4, 5U4G etc) rectifiers. Also the max current delivered is lower (like around 70mA) and the max reservoir cap rating is something like 4uF. (Somebody is bound to chime in if I'm off base here.)

Lowell, get yourself the RCA tube manual. Look up the tubes you want to know about. Each one will have the base wiring and all the specs right in the book. or at the very least look up the data sheet on the tubes.
