  • Lucky find- what's your best find?

I work at an auto repair shop for a day job. One of my customers is a real estate agent and he's in the process of cleaning out a house that belonged to a relative that recently passed away. This particular relative was an engineer back in the day- for Philco best I can tell.

I jokingly asked him if there was any old tube gear in the house- he said yes, and that they'd already started to throw some of it away!! AAAAAAARGH!!!

I hurried over and checked it out. There is a TON of cool old gear...I swiped most of the stuff I wanted right away- an HH Scott 222c integrated amp, a worn and non-working Hickok 605 tube tester, and an old chassis with a variac and large ammeter on it. There are a few boxes with random used tube sockets and a few boxes with resistors that I'm taking as well.

I'm going to sell everything that I don't want or can't take due to space requirements. My friend offered to split the proceeds with me, a very generous offer I thought. It's gonna end up on ebay but I thought I'd post here first in case anyone has been looking for something in particular.

Here's what remains that I haven't had a chance to deal with:
-4 or 5 large boxes of tubes, most either Philco or JAN tubes, many many directly heated 4 pin types. I'm planning to keep the 5v4's, 6u8's, 6v6's, 6k6's, st shaped 6l6's and a few other tubes. There are a number of old octal tubes, many are steel types. A few electric eye tubes, an entire box of 6ak5's, and who knows what else till I get a chance to go through them and start testing them.
    -various variable caps, air type
    -Tube VOM's
    -capacitance and inductance bridges
-an Eico tube o-scope (works best I can tell, haven't had a chance to test any further)
-portable Navy o-scope, model os-8b/u, also works but probably needs work
-large dual trace tube o-scope, don't recall the brand off-hand but it's rad and huge. dunno if it works or not. Looking forward to checking it.
-a number of speakers of various vintage, nothing that appears very desirable
    -various meters; current, voltage, etc.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this or not. I'll probably create a garage sale post when I'm ready to post up some pictures and really deal with this stuff.

    Just a 1960-vintage (mostly functional) Hi-Fi.

    Still hunting, though.
