  • ok to pull tubes?

hi all. i have a silvertone 1484, and i was wondering if its ok to pull out tubes in the reverb ckt and tremelo ckt.
i dont use these features, and i'd like to keep those tubes as spares.
i read in a "tube amp" book that it was ok to do this type of thing, but i wanted to make sure.
the two tubes i'd like to save are 12ax7 & 6cg7(not the one used as a pi).
    thanx as always, rich.

should be no problem. voltages may rise a bit for the other pramp tubes, and possibly the grids with less of a current draw though. shouldnt hurt anything, but will change the tone a bit.

Preamp tubes are cheap, sounds like the reasoning is flawed. The amp is designed to have them in it and each preamp tube contributes to the tone.

in a good way or a bad way? there is no harm in trying it out to see wether you like it or not. preamp tubes are cheap, but why not save the money or the tube for an emergency situation. designs arent perfect, and tube amps are pretty versatile.

thanks for the replies. i understand that pre amp tubes are "cheap" for the most part, however the tubes in there are old stock(not cheap to replace),and the 6cg7 is not something i can walk into my local music store and get. sure i could order one on line, but that wont do me any good in an emergency. i guess i could get a replacement before an "emergency" occurs tho. but i just wanted to know if its safe to do(wont harm the amp).
ps. the tremelo is pretty good on this amp, the reverb is hilarious.
