  • wanted- low voltage (600vct or less) tremolux PT

I have a home-made amp that uses (used) a Z-mount power TF similar to a tremolux PT but with 285 volt secondaries. I could mod the circuit to use the higher voltage of a Fender PT but I'd still like to find one at or below 600vct if possible.

I'm not using the 5 volt tap and haven't the room for a tube rect so it doesn't matter if it has one. I'd also prefer to avoid Mercury Magnetics because of their insane prices! I'm pretty certain that Heyboer or Edcor would wind one for me for less than a MM part.

I've checked a few places and been unable to find an off-the-shelf part. Any suggestions?

With PTs, virtually any professional tranny winding outfit could make you a PT to your exact specs for around $50-$150 tops. You just have to tell them you want it shielded, what primary, and the volts/amps of each secondary, and whether you want z-mount or x-mount.

I think my tragedy has been averted- the PT on the amp in question smells a little funny but I think it's gonna be OK. One of the 1n4007's crapped out and the power TF got pretty hot.

I guess this is why you have to be careful to select the correct mains fuse! I don't even see an amp value on the one that was in there and it should have blown long before it did.
