  • Metal Oxide vs Wirewound Resistors

I can get 5W resistors in wirewound or metal oxide. Any particular difference between the two? I am using them for B+ rail and/or cathode resistors for the power stage.

...most metal oxide resistors are "flame proof" (good)

...while most wirewound resistors can be "inductive" (not good) due to their constrution.
...and the Devil said: "...yes, but it's a DRY heat!"

Both are flameproof. Wirewound resistors DO exhibit some inductance by the sheer fact that they a coil of wire wound on a ceramic form, not necessarily a bad thing. I limit their use to power supplies, screen grid resistors and cathode-bias resistors. There is no other place they would really be needed.

          go metal oxide!
