5150iii channel two compressing

Just got a 5150iii. Playing a Les Paul standard and studio. When iturn the gain up past 12 o'clock ( straight up ) on channel two , the amp acts funny. Like the signal gets compressed. It sounds awful. It's most noticeable when I play palm muted power chords on the 5 th and 6 th strings. I tried a cheap guitar ( same bridge humbucker ) and the problem wasn't noticeable. Went back to the Les Paul ...sick.


So I tried leaving the gain at 12o'clock ( which sounds great for strumming with distortion ) but it sounds weak when trying to play any single notes. I'm convinced something has got to be wrong. Eddie's advice about how he got his tone was simple. "I just turned everything all the way up" So I can't believe Les Paul players can't turn the amp 's preamp up all the way.

I've got a buddy who's an amp Wiz , but he says without the real schematic , there's no way to tell what any of the settings are supposedto be. Anything short of a bad tube is really out of reach. Can't get a schematic on line for this amp anywhere. Can't get ahold of Fender. Nobody on line can help so far , so it's looking like Fender will be getting their amp back.

Try another 5150iii ? Since you can recreate the problem easily, head to your local music store with your LesPaul and try a different one.

Well, the reason I'm in his situation is because I live 4 hours away from The closest dealer for this amp. That's why I oRdered it. I decided to send it back as defective and get another. New one will be here tomorrow. Since I startd this thread ; I will follow up to let anyone reading this know what's up with the next one. ( would have like to have checked the tubes first , but I didn't have he resources nearby and I hated to take a chance with a brand new amp ). I'll be back.
