    Ever adjust the FET on a Ceriatone OTS?

    Got an OTS here that is being put back "to print" after some anonymous meddling. The value of the FET adjust pot is wrong and it sounded terrible-choking, gagging and crumbling. It's like a monster overdrive. I guess I could reverse engineer a procedure but I'd like to know the right way first.

    I didn't spot it because that's not my style of playing. I said to my self "My that's loud. yecch." and moved on. Seems the owner likes it and it's not happy.

    Other than that, it now sounds divine and has me thinking how I might get together the dough for one of these. It's really a nice amp to work on, too.

    Are you talking about an Overtone Special? I had a customer buy one without trannys and brought it to me to finish out. He had purchased all high dollar trannys. The only problem I had was the voltage to the FET was too low.
    I had to play with the 150K 2 watt dropping resistor. Just inject a clean sine wave into the input and watch the signal coming out of the FET on an oscilloscope. While doing this vary the resistance of the dropping resistor. Adjust for a clean sine wave.

      Yes, that's what it was. I think the only reason you see these on D****e clones is because there was one on number 124, which was the reengineered Dumble all these amps are based on. It's really not at all what the amp's about. Nik Azam has introduced a slightly modified Overtone which does away with the FET input and board altogether.

      His iron's very nice stuff by the way. Builds strong bodies 12 ways.
