  • Silly Questions from a Twin Reverb owning DIY Newbie

    Hi,

I have a '72 SF twin that had the vibrato channel modded by A. Dumble. ALthough I really don't want to sell it (it's been my main amp since 1983), it has been suggested to me that I may be able to get stupid money for it because the reclusive master Dumble made the vibrato channel really "special". The guy who sold me the amp told me that it had previously been owned by Stephen Stills and my repair guy, world famous Andy Brauer (check him out at Guitar Repair Bass Tube Amplifier Musician Instrument Service for Musicians in Los Angeles, CA, tell him I sent you, he is the best) tells me that the mod and signature (engraved on the back) are genuine. I want to open up the chassis in order to photograph it. My simple question is how do I open it up correctly? What do I unscrew and in what order? Thanks for your time,
    ]ack

    72 SF

    (4) screws on the top of the amp. (2) long chassis straps.
There may or may not be nuts on the screws.
(I don.t know when Fender realized what a weld nut was)
Those nuts can be a real PITA to get back on.
Especially the one back at the transformer.
Watch out. That chassis is heavy.

And when you have freed the chassis hardware, and you are holding onto this heavy metal thing, you will realize you really should have unplugged the speaker, the reverb cables, and unscrewed the power cord clamp from the wall.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

          Chassis removal

          Thanks for the addendum Enzo.
          I got tired of typnig.
Might want to add that the screws are removed in a counterclockwise direction.

              Fender SF

And try not to bend the SF front panel when it slides over the baffle board.
Aren't these amps fun to work on?

                thanks

I did manage to unplug the speakers and the amp. Thanks guys.

And now for another brain teaser, does anyone have any idea what a differentiates a Twisted Telecaster Neck Pickup from a normal Telecaster Neck Pickup? While I have seen many a mention of the so called Twisted variety of neck pickup in Fender's expensive custom shop models I have yet to have come across a description of what said Twisting is supposed to do or achieve. Any ideas?

Recommend you start a new thread for that.

Of the inside of your twin?
