  • Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 - Main speaker out issue

I have a Hot Rod Deville 2x12 and when I plug the speakers into the main speaker out I get a very faint quiet sound that is a little bit distorted but when I plug into the extension jack it works fine nice and loud and clear.

I replaced the power tubes, checked the solder joints at both jacks.

Thanks in advance for any help and ideas.

    Any thoughts on this?

That sounds backwards. The main speaker jack has the shorting contact, while the extension jack has switch contacts for impedance select. If you plug into the extension jack then the shorting contact in the other jack is still across the amp output. SO you get extremely weak sound.

Thinking of a way for it to work as you describe is tough. It would mean something like the impedance switch on the external jack was not working or the higher impedance tap on the output transformer was not working.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.
