  • peavey channel cuts out at volumn under 7

    i have a peavey kb100.
the input volume is set less than 7 it cuts out.
but if i leave it on 7 or more it sounds fine.
i just cleaned the pots and don't think that is the problem.
this is a multi channel amp, but this only happens on channel 1 on both high and low z mic/instrument input.

any ideas what i might check?
    thanks.

( i realize it isn't a guitar amp per se, but it's a solid state amp and there is more action in guitar amp section)

What makes you think the pot isn't the problem?

I'd need to at least measure it before ruling it out and it sure seems like the first suspect.
My rants, products, services and incoherent babblings on my blog.

Agreed. The pot may be clean now, but that doesn;t mean it is not broken. Pull it out and check it with an ohm meter.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I thought that it isn't the pots (and I may be entirely clueless about this) is that the symptoms (cutting and the >7 level non-problem) happen when the pots are not being moved/stationary.
so i was thinking it might be a cap somewhere. It would be nice if it's simple issue like that.

I'll take both your advise and recheck the pots and let you know.
