A friend of mine brought me his carvin tube amp to work on. I have plenty of solid state expereince, but this is my first tube amp to work on. It buzzes real bad, even with all control pots turned to zero. All the tubes light up but I dont know if they could still be the cause. with just power on there is no buzz through the speaker. When you turn the stand-by on with the tubes warmed up it buzzes right off the bat. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i would pull one pair of power tubes at a time to see if one is causing the problem.
the tubes are wired as a left pair and a right pair. you can pull the 2 outer tubes first, then see if it still buzzes. if so, put those 2 tubes back in and pull the two inner tubes. if it still buzzes, the power tubes are probably still OK....you've likely ruled them out as a possible source of the buzz.
