  • new build 5X3 Fender 2nd input problem

The problem is input 2 a & b when plugged in either one, if you strum the guitar hard the sound cuts out. Then I have to turn the volume all the way down and then up again to hear it. Input 1 a & b works just fine. Any words of wisdom or point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    How about a schematic?
"Take two placebos, works twice as well." Enzo

"Now get off my lawn with your silicooties and boom-chucka speakers and computers masquerading as amplifiers" Justin Thomas

"If you're not interested in opinions and the experience of others, why even start a thread?
You can't just expect consent." Helmholtz

Is it a Ceriatone? If so, they don't provide a schematic, but a graphical layout. Take the layout and use the infomation to draw the schematic. This is one aspect of their marketing approach that makes it hard for you, the customer. Or you could look at it as an opportunity to learn about the design. Hand drawn is OK.

        Fender 5E3

If it is as a stock 5E3, each input. 1 & 2, goes to 1/2 of the first triode.
        Measure the voltages on pin 1 & 3 / 6 & 8 of that tube.
