  • Anyone know where I can get some large A8 bar Magnets?

Does anyone know anyone that has Large A8 mags in stock? I'm looking for something at least 3/8 by 3/8 by any length greater than 1.25 inches. Mcmaster has 1" by 1" by 4" but they want 85 dollars for it yikes!. Any size is fine, im not afraid to cut/grind/mill it as I have all the nessesary tools.

Have you ever tried to cut/grind/mill AlNiCo before?

My understanding is that you can't do it because either it's so hard it becomes too costly to do it and/or affects the mag's inherent capacity to hold magnetism so the charge gets depleted fast.

This is NOT an area of my expertise, but I think I remember talking 'bout this with my old mag dealer... but he also liked to BS every now and then (I'm in Italy, we seem to just can't be able to live without BS'ing, God bless us), so contacting your mag dealer 'bout it is a must, I'd say.

Have you tried Az Industries | Custom Magnet Manufacturer and CNC Machining ? They used to carry A8s, they definitely have equipment to process it.

Well I've got what I think are the possible tools. A full water jet tile saw, good aluminum oxide chop saw, and a fixture in the cnc machine. Im a pretty good machinest. I try cutting standard humbucker a8 bucker mags tommorow and report back

Did you try Shea at Mag Hold? He sold me some odd-ball magnets a few years back (standard humbucker depth and width, 3 1/4" length) and got the price down to something reasonable for a small lot.

Do let us know how this goes, I've thought that a wet tile saw with diamond blade would be a good way to cut Alnico, be nice to know if I'm right!

I didnt get to try this week. I will probably try this weekend though. I'll report back with pictures.

Shae didnt have any magnets, but he did say that I could get them made pretty easily.. something like $170 mold charge and $40/ea for 2 pcs. I can either do that and get exact size in 5-6 weeks. Or I can grind down one from mcaster carr at $86 /ea.. Im on the fence

Why not stack 3 of the minibucker magnets and saw them shorter (as if they came in A8...)
I take it Azindustries was no help.

I once tried to cut some 5mm Alnico pole pieces...never again, I spontaneously combusted, which I can tell you made a terrible mess of my workshop.
