Odd pickup effect on Epiphone casino

Hi All

I had an interesting pickup repair problem today. An old customer turned up with a quite nice Epiphone casino in Teal colour complaining that only the middle 4 strings on the front pickup were sounding. This turned out to be correct. When measured the pickup read 7,8 k ohms. Does anyone have any opinions as to the cause of the problem ?

Hi Mike
I did check the magnetic strength, there was´nt any, they had forgotten to put the magnets into the p90. It says something for the quality control of modern manufacturers !!! This pickup went out from the Kent Armstrong (Korean supplier) and then was fitted by Epiphone into a guitar and not spotted as defective. It was quite interesting to see that there was a reasonable output on the 4 inner strings but not the 2 e strings. Food for thought ?
