Ive got a switching board for an amp that runs off the 6.3 ac heaters . It uses a foot switch and the cable has 2 wires.

Im trying to install an LED (dc) in the fsw . Ive tried running a diode across the legs in either direction (found a scem that shows this is how to do it) , swapped the other 2 wires around ,

the light will work on and off, BUT , it kills the switch. The relays wont switch.

What am i missing here ?

My first guess would be that the current through the LED is sufficient to enable the circuit. Closing the switch shorts across the LED turning the LED off, but the circuit is already complete, so nothing changes.

One thing you could TRY is to put the LED in SERIES with the switch, instead of across the switch.
