  • THD Flexi 50 Repair. Any advice appreciated.

I have a THD Flexi 50 that I bought second hand. After purchase it became clear that there was an unpleasant non musical distortion on the signal when the amp was turned up to small gig levels and beyond. When I had it looked at by a tech he found the source of the problem to be a broken Input Transformer. No other issues were related back to me so I am hoping a replacement will leave me with an amp I can use.

THD have now ceased production of amps and I can't get an exact replacement! Does anybody have any words of confidence regarding this kind of repair? could another I.T potentially be sourced?, is it a difficult job to integrate and fit a new I.T?

Any advice would be very welcome as I don't have the money to buy a new rig, but if I could get this fixed, I could have a really good amp to use again!

    Cheers, Gavin

If you mean output transformer, it should not be hard to find a similar replacement. Did the tech not offer you that? If not, you may want to get a second opinion. Output transformers are often mis-diagnosed as causing the problem when the real cause is something else. If the tech thought it was the output transformer I don't know why he wouldn't have offered to replace it with something compatible.
