  • Peavey Combo 115

I have a Peavey combo 115 made around 2002. With no input the speaker will just pop and you will see the DDT light flicker. When slap bass style is played it kicks the DDT in. Not sure what is going on, but going to open and investigate. Anyone got any preconcieved ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jason
soldering stuff that's broken, breaking stuff that works, Yeah!

The DDT info comes from the power amp board.
    So......

First thing I would check is the power supply.

Ok Will do. At this point cleaned all pots and jacks. Also cleared a layer of dust off bottom of power amp board. There is a vent over it and I guess dust falls into it.

      Thanks,
      Jason

Wait, just what is the amp doing wrong? A pop and DDT flicker when you power up is pretty normal. Or did you mean that is ALL it does, no sound of bass?

Bass is very peaky, especially slapping and popping the strings. That that triggers a DDT flash is also pretty normal.

          Is it an active bass?

It will do it with no instrument plugged in about every 10to15 sec it will thump and ddt will flash.
With instrument plugged in slapping a pbass no active will activate ddt an sound like crap.

I cleaned jacks an layer of dust off bottom of transistor outputs ..will test it this afternoon kids were asleep.

            Thanks,

No more thumps, it was a either a dirty pot or the layer of dust on the output transistors.
