I'm sure the answer is obvious but I'm not sure what to search for. I have a set of cheapo pj bass pickups wired in series. I was wondering how I could separate the pickups to have their own lead and ground as one of them has 2 white wires on one not sure which is which or if it matters which is start and finish.

If it is a P-Bass style pickup, the two halves are wire in series so that they hum cancel. The two sides are reverse wound and reverse polarity.Originally posted by Dylan-Nic View Post

You can use either half hooked any way you like, if you are just using half of it.
Normally with fender type single coils the start lead is grounded, and the finish lead is tied to Vol. Pot output.
If there is not another pickup in the guitar, the polarity will not matter.
