  • Circuit question for pedalboard. See pic!

I want to upgrade my pedalboard to a Pedaltrain Pt3, or the new Novo 24 og Classic2. Depends on the circuit and how the pedals fit.
Is this a fair way to set the circuit? Considering removing the volume pedal and maybe the Echorec, as I never use them.
Noise Suppressor -> VP - Compressor - Tuner - Super Octave - Bluesky Reverb - Cathedral Reverb - Echorec - Multi Overtone - Line6 Delay

This is for Post rocky and/or folky stuff. Maybe putting the reverb after delay also? I think that would work better, but it makes it very difficult to place the pedals!
    Thank you!

I would put the noise suppressor in front of the Line 6 delay at the very end and I'm not sure where if the delay should go before or after the reverb. It probably doesn't make much difference except that if you use the looper function having that last allows you to have the effects "printed" onto the loops, if you want a clear part and a reverby part you can have both. Putting the Echorec in between the reverbs and all three ahead of the Line 6 would give you a lot of options.

It really depends on how traditional you want your sound. I have read of people feeding reverb into distortion (generally the distortion will compress the signal so the decay will be different) and liked the results.

I would lay all the pedals out on the floor and try the different combinations (I'm not sure if you want octave before distortion or after) but I would put the looper dead last and the noise suppressor just in front of it. I would also put the compressor first. Once you get the sequence right, you can figure out how to place them on the board for best access. If you get a wiring kit you can run the pedals in any sequence you want, regardless of placement. You may still want to keep the pedals in close to the sequence but an extra 3-4 ft of wire is not going to make a real difference among all the other stuff on your board.

I run my signal Volume Pedal (Right side) --> Wah --> Plush Cream (red pedal up top) --> Ecstacy (Blue pedal up front) --> GT-500 --> TC Flashback --> TC Polytune. I put the Polytune at the end so I can use it as a mute but it could go anywhere.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

My preference is to place reverb after delay, as to me it sounds more natural. Delay+reverb should be right at the end of your signal chain and if possible located in the amp's FX loop - especially if you're using the amp's drive capability. If you If you decide to keep the volume pedal then you may want to experiment with the position - sometimes they can 'fight' the compressor if placed in front. Depends on how you're using the compressor and your style of playing. Also consider locating the VP right at the end of the chain. This way you can preserve the signal dynamics and only affect the level with the pedal, though volume pedals can knock the high-end sparkle off the signal.

Your noise suppressor doesn't act like a usual noise gate (which would be placed at the end of the chain). You're right in this being the first in the chain. Boss also recommends you place delays outside of the suppressor loop.

Your particular octave pedal is very tolerant of position and just comes down to personal preference.
