  • The P90 in a humbucker rout conundrum

Solved with grace. A few weeks ago this design was shown to none other than Paul Reed Smith at a local clinic. He gave his approval.

Underneath sits a real, no bullshit, 100% true blooded P-90.

Is there a conceiled way of adjusting the height?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

It's a static mount, like a dog-eared P-90. Covers need to be set for height depending on guitar's particular neck angle, string height off the body, etc. However, thin shims could be used to raise them. I shoot for about 1/8th inch below the strings when milling down the height.

Very Nice! Do you trim the base plate, and the bottom of the coil
          form to make this work?

Just a little indent on the corners is all.

Good idea, like I said some time ago when you showed that to me- whats the minimum height required for the neck pickup including the cover where you wouldnt have to route the pickup cavity assuming it only has a bump out for the original humbucker height adjustment foot 1/2 inch wide?

Very nice. I played with a similar idea some time ago but decided i don't have the time to do it good enough. So if a customer wants full size P90s för a HB rout, are those ready to ship? If so, I'll refer those customers to you.

Elegant solution Wolfe. But there are alot of guitars this won't work on. You can't drop the height of the pickup below the actual thickness of the P90 bobbin because it will hit the humbucker rout. That PRS has the strings very high up off the top of the guitar, my 335 type guitar doesn't have room for a P90 bobbin thickness and could only use a P90 if it were routed and a short P90 cover used.

Very true. The width of the "ears" rout for a HB is wide enough for a soapbar, so if you rout them wider you will have a fit.

                              cheers,
