  • Changing magnetic orientation of Strat PU?

Can I change the orientation of a Fender Strat single coil pu by remagnetizing it with a Nd magnet?
Do I need to demagnetize before?

I have '54 Custom Shop set and want to make the middle pu rp/rw.
(the wiring can easily be reversed)

Yes you can! There's no need to demagnetise them as far as I know.

Yep, I've done this a few times ... no problems.

I use a couple of Neo's like this (jump to 1:42)

Yes you can reverse the North South orientation easily enough.
The reverse wiring is another thing.
Fender type pickups usually ground the start lead, and apply output to the finish lead.
If the magnets are shorted to the start lead, they still work fine because they are potentially at ground zero.
If you apply output to the start lead and any of the magnets are shorted, then you will kill the pickup if you touch it.
Because you, the bridge, and the strings are grounded.
That is why RWRP single coil sets have one pickup reverse wound!
Ideally, You want all start leads grounded, and all output leads applied to the finish lead.
This only applies to rod type pickups, and does not apply to plastic bobbin pickups.
