  • Making oddball hybrids

I was looking through Mojotone's offerings, and while looking at their bobbin for making a SC-sized dual-rail type pickup, I thought "Hmmm, I could snuggle that right up against a Strat-type or even PAF-type bobbin, and make something that's hum-rejecting, but in a space slightly larger than SC, but smaller than HB or P90."

Which leads me to ask if anybody has experimented with non-standard combinations like that. I have some Duncan P-Rails in one of my guitars, and those combine a P90 approximation with a single slender rail-type coil in a PAF-sized package. And I'm familiar with the Railhammer pickups that use both rails and polepieces in a PAF-sized package and spacing. But I can't think of any other pickups I've seen that combine two different kinds of coils to achieve a different coil-to-coil sensing area in a nonstandard-size package.

    Do such things exist?
