  • Guitar Pickups Wire purchase in Europe?

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if any of you can recommend me any online store to buy guitar pickups wire here in Europe, for example I find hard to get Formvar wire here, all the results on Ebay are from USA, and the cost of importing that wire is kind of high. I'm located in Sweden.

    Thanks!

      Hi Alexirae

The formvar that wires.co.uk carries is the wrong size for strat pickups. Their normal poly wire awg 42 is good value, especially if you get the 6 kg rolls otherwise for vintage fender style pickup its back to BAE remington or WIRE - 42 AWG Magnet Wire - Heavy Formvar - Tone Kraft You'll have to bite the bullet with shipping and taxes.

I found recently that Axesrus (located in UK) is selling 3 different types of wire + load of parts to make pickups:

Yes it does, but £33,60 for 300g of poly wire is a bit expensive for my tastes...

What does your post have to do with finding and buying affordable wire in EU?
If they can't find a source for regular wire, where are they going to find a source for the bondable wire?
              I don't get your post?

Perhaps the company can provide a source or sell directly? It's a good place to start, anyway.

Forget Elektrisola in Europe, I emailed them, got no reply and the only thing I got from them are the dates that their Swiss branch are on holiday. They don't seem to give a damn. I just pay up and get wire from the USA and suffer the shipping and customs charges. Wires.co.uk will give you a good price on larger rolls. The wire they use seems to come from Italy. Not sure about self bonding as I never use it.

                  Cheers

I don't know where you would buy bondable here in the states. Not that I've looked for any!
With affordable round wire in Poly, PE, & Formvar, and wax potting, I have no use for bondable either.
You can read lots of idealism, but when it comes down to practicality, We are subject to buying and using what supplies are available.
                    Especially small Boutique shops.

I contacted elektrisola Italy, last year, and got an answer from them, they gave the name of their distributors in Italy whom I contacted to get some info on buying wire. They only had very large rolls of 13kg and 17kg, I couldn't even imagine how to handle them...

                        Hi Alberto

Did they give you a price on the large rolls ? I'm next door in Austria.

                        Cheers

OK. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the vender. Sounds impractical for your situation. The reason I linked to bonded wire is because I thought it might simplify the process. There are also issues of insulation crazing or stretching to consider. I don't know how Formvar reacts when stressed.

                              Hi Alberto

Thanks for the information. do you have a contact email or phone for the supplier in Italy. Elektrislolas Swiss branch seemed totally disinterested and didn't even bother to answer my enquiries.
