  • tweed cab rattling?

    Hi,

There seems to be a problem with all my tweed amp cabs. At high volumes they start do develop a rattling or low buzz at the low frequencies. The bigger the cab the more likely it is to develop. I have ruled out coil rubs and loose components. So I wonder if this is a typical tweed problem. My theory is that the baffle board is rattling against the front panels since tweed baffle boards are rather thin and only mounted with four tiny screws at the corners.

What would be the suggested fix for this without losing the tweed character? putting some kind of foam between the baffle board or adding more screws along the front panels?

    thanks!

First determine if indeed that is where it rattles. Hypotheses are great and all, but we only act on them when they are borne out. Set up a steady low note that rattles the cab. Now reach in there and push against the baffle board with spread fingers. Does that stop it? Pull the chassis and run wires to the speaker from it. Still rattle? We could have the upper edge of the baffle board or the grille buzzing the chassis. Roll up a magazine and hold it to your ear. it is now a stethoscope. While the thing is buzzing, listen around to determine the location of the buzz.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

I have already done all that (except for the newspaper stetoscope). Most of the rattle comes from the lover edge of the baffle board and some from the upper edge.
