  • Bartolini Pick-up ID

I believe I'm in the right place to find out just what the heck this pick-up is.

I've had it for about 20 years now, bought it used. It was in a project guitar, and now that I have a new project guitar, I want to drop it in.

It sounds great, but I just don't know what type of Bartolini it is, and in what position it "should" go (bridge/neck.)

    Thanks in advance. Rock-On!

I have no idea why my photos appear upside down.

Just looking at the roughness around the cover hole, I wonder it this might be a prototype. Bill did a lot of custom work for guitar makers and artists with endorsement deals over the years.
Perhaps if Bill made it to the NAMM show this week someone there could show him the photos and see what he remembers.

Looks like an early version of the Bartolini Laminated Core humbucker. The early ones had the steel core laminations exposed, while later ones were enclosed in their black cover. They had designations of LC40, LC50, etc.. for the different models. Don't remember them having the metal surrounding the 2 coils though. Maybe a transitory feature.
