  • Help needed replacing Egnater Tweaker 40 power xformer

    Hello and Happy New year!

I'm replacing a original Egnater power xformer with a Magnetic Components Classic Tone upgrade xformer.
I have the secondary side all wired but need help with the primary side. Original wire's on primary side are: White, Blue, Black, Brown and Red.
Replacement xformer primary wire's are: Red w Black, Black w White, Brown, White, Black and Brown w White.
The replacement xformer has an extra wire. Does anyone have a copy of the Tweaker 40 schematic that would sure help.
Or has anyone have replaced one before?

    Thanks to everyone.

    Dehn.

Doubt you need the schematic, what you do need is the paper sent with the transformer. Or if you have the model of the transformer maybe they have the PDF online. It should tell you what you need since you've done the secondary(other than the colors are you sure the secondary is correct? Could be an expensive lesson if not.If it is the 40-18104 here's a picClick image for larger version

As Enzo always says "it's not the wires color but the function to be concerned about". Agree with nosaj that you really need to reference the documentation for the Classic Tone transformer. What model # is the Classic Tone?

        Exactly^^^

Your original might have been a signel primary with taps, while the new might have a dual primary needing to be parallel wired.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Unfortunately the Tweaker schematic doesn't even show the power transformer.

Hello to everyone that's responded and thank you.

I did get a paper with the new transformer, its the original tranny that I needed a schematic or wiring diagram.
I have taken the time to work this out and I'm posting this for anyone who needs this for a repair.
The secondary side is a perfect match except the center tap wire for the RED high voltage wires is RED w Yellow where the original is BLACK.
The primary side is Original WHITE wire is now RED w BLACK. Original BLUE is now BLACK. Original BLACK is now WHITE.
Original BROWN IS still BROWN and Original RED is now BROWN w WHITE. BLACK w WHITE wire is not used. This is for Classic Tone Xformer model # 40-18104

Then I fail to understand your original question. I understood you did not know how to correctly arrive at wiring up the primary side.

Well it sounds like you got it all wired up now. Sometimes questions answer themselves once you start talking to a few people and writing it all out. Good to know that Egnater worked out a deal with Magnetic Components since we all know they had some bum transformers ship out.
