  • Krk rokit rp10-3g3

Often called ROKIT 10-3 generation 3 or simply ROKIT 10

Would highly appreciate if anyone can help me with a schematic for this. My object is to disable the (to me) pesky auto standby feature - if it's as easy as replacing the standby diode with a jumper like the guy on this forum did with his Rokit 8, I may not even need a schematic ... of course, one must be safe rather than sorry!

    Thanks folks...

As so far no replies seem to be forthcoming re a schematic, I would also kindly request help from anyone that knows how to disable the standby function .. I know some folks like it, some hate it! I fall into the latter, and being that I love everything else about the Rokit 10, I am even considering - subject to getting the info' of course - potentially forfeiting my guarantee to make the modification ...

You might try contacting KRK directly and see if they can offer a solution or schematic.

I can certainly understand someone not liking that feature, but I can't see why it would be a huge deal. What specifically don't you like about it? If it's an issue of them not coming back on when you want them to, try turning the volume down a bit on the speakers and send more input to them from your source. They turn on by sensing the signal level at the input and would be more likely to come back on with a higher level input signal.

Thank you so much The Dude. Yes I already tried that strategy re gain levels etc. Nonetheless, frankly I prefer something I can turn on or off as required; especially because when they DO kick in there's always a delay, which invariably means starting the track again ... to be stuck with that every time is to my simple brain infuriating! Presently I just keep a power switch on my desk and turn them off manually for a break before the auto thing kicks in.

Sure, indeed I may try contacting them; but with all due respects, generally judging by comments on this and other forums, not many have had much luck with such more 'finicky' issues ...

Some of KRK's other models have a dipswitch at the back to disable the standby -- I figured if I can lay my hands on some of the schematics - i.e. a model WITH disabling switch and a model without it (as mine) -- it should be relatively easy to trace the placement of the switch in the circuit, etc.

Do contact them directly, preferably by telephone rather than email. The worst they can do is say no. And you will never get them if you don;t ask.

Thanks Enzo .. In fact I did try, but the customer service # is an 800 # which I can't dial as I'm in New Zealand ... If I can find a non-800 # shall certainly try

You might add New Zealand to your profile then.

I found this on the KRK site:

Yes indeed. I have sent emails both to Gibson and the local guys Music Link. Unfortunately on the KRK website I do not see any phone numbers other than 800 numbers for US, Europe & China ... Yes I also support the wisdom of getting a live human on the phone - if anyone can help me with a phone# I will certainly do that too. We shall prevail!

You can at least call your local people.

I tried to find an address and phone for the USA people, and it proved elusive. But I might start with Gibson and go from there.

Have you tried opening the monitor and looking at the PC board? I thought that RP10 has a jack on the back panel for a footswitch (to switch it on and off). If not, I would open the monitor and check whether there is socket on the PC board to connect the jack. Can you post a photo of the board?

There is a rear photo here, and I see only signal jacks. But there may well be unused connections on the boards themselves.

Yes, I see that there is no footswitch jack on the rear panel. But what is interesting is a photo of the PC board of the monitor.

Here's the more or less expected email from Gibs, name witheld for courtesy's sake. It's always eerie to be written to in this way, but the "normal operation" of tolerance is a virtue and we are thankful to Gibson and the universe for what we have got as our lot :-) - message follows:

Thank you for contacting us. The issue you are having is normal operation for the monitors to kick in from the auto-standby. The input signal to the monitors needs to be above the threshold for them to turn on, which takes a short amount of time. There isn't a work around to this.

As for schematics, they are only available to authorized service centers, so I cannot provide them for you.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Also, thank you MarcusBass for your input. I shan't be opening it up at this point as my time is severely limited - I am far too busy with other pressing and urgent work. Your observation is nonetheless interesting and it could be useful in the future if and when I might get around to opening one of them up. Many thanks
