  • Anyone seen one of these? What is it?

Picked this up off a family friend. He says it’s a mid to late 50’s amp, and that’s all he remembers. Any ideas on brand or model?Click image for larger version

That looks remarkably like a Montgomery Wards amp I had as a kid. I'm not saying it is. What's the tube compliment? That might help.

      Small one is a 7025/12AX7WA
The two larger darker ones read 50L6. GT. H6M
The next one on the right is 35Z5. GT

Just noticed a second 7025 on the far left, under that aluminum shield

Still not sure, but here's another thread on what appears to be the same amp.

So that makes two of them out there, would just like to know who made it.

The thing that's puzzling me about this amp is that it appears to have both power and output transformers, yet the tube compliment says series filament string "widowmaker" with the 50L6 and 35Z5

There are some amps that have a PT for everything but the heaters and the heaters are still run in series directly off the line. I suspect it's one of those.

Same company that made National, Danelectro, Lectrolab, Silvertone, Guilds, some Gibsons, Oahu, Premier, Monkey-Ward, gee, all of those. Was that Valco? It may be hard to narrow it down any closer...

Each brand just gave different price points and quality control dictates and the amps were made to spec. Hey, kinda like China does now... And to think, an American company started that!

National, Danelectro, Premier, as far as i know they were totally different companies. Valco, supro , national and the others were all one company.

The presence of a tweeter makes me think also of Magnatone, but I don't recall ever seeing a Magnatone that looked like this.

The rectifier is 35v, not 5v. Still doesn;t add up.

Maybe someone stuck some wrong tubes in it. Is the chassis marked for what they should be?
