  • loose jack

A pretty basic question, but my understanding of pedals is likewise basic.

I bought a used Boss BD-2 Blues Driver over the weekend. Atho I tried it out for a while at the shop, I neglected to notice that the output jack is loose. By "loose" I mean that when you plug the 1/4" cable connector into the jack there's no click as it slides - a bit too easily - into the opening. The pedal works fine, but I'd like to adjust or replace this jack before it gives me problems.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I assume that the output jack feels different from the other jacks on the pedal?

Sometimes when a larger than average plug is inserted in a jack, the internal leaf contact can be bent out of shape, resulting in the "loose" feel that you describe.

If you open up the pedal and remove the output jack from the case you can look into the back side of the jack and see the leaf contacts. Insert a plug and you'll see how the contact is made. Then you can carefully bend in the metal leaf to tighten up the fit. Don't overdo it, or you may damage the jack beyond repair.

Also, make a little drawing (or a photo) of the wiring before you remove the jack, as the wires can often break off when you move them around.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll give that a try.
