  • 12ax7 24vac series heaters? can you...

I have a few of these more solid state like transformers around
I made a voltage tripler on one winding for about 150v for a preamp test bed,
    the other winding has 24VAC
can I run 2x12ax7 form the 24vac? , how exactly do you wire these??
I was thinking in series right 12vac each.. but more like which pins go where..
somhow I cant picture this.. from the ac to pin 4 -5 ? ...?

Of course you can. SOme current Peavey amps have three in series across 36v even.

The 12AX7 is a 12v tube with heater from 4 to 5. pin 9 is just a center tap, which lets us wire them for 6v by connecting the ends together. Just wire the two tubes in series.

AC hot to V1 pin 4, V1-5 to V2-4, then V2-5 to AC return.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

      Thanks Enzo~!

Once again as always a light in the dark!

      ps I got it working

now I can use my 3.00 transformer for a tube preamp

150V from the 36vac via voltage tripler
      and 2x12ax7 from the 24v

I think the tube sockets and tubes cost more than a couple transformers!
