  • Duncan 4 Cond Wiring?

I do a LOT more single conductor 'buckers than 4 cond and either I made a dumb error recently or I am confused.

I'm trying to color code like Duncan to keep things simple.

    Red/white = series link
    Black = hot
    green/bare = ground

So...If I wire the coils as:
    slug start = black
    slug finish = white
    screw start = green
    screw finish = red

    That's correct, right?

Check out these two color code charts:

Schwab to the rescue! Thanks, Dave.

      Ok...so I have it right...

A customer said red and black were series links and white was hot. I must have just plain screwed up and mixed up the white and black wires on the slug coil. Damn.

I'm fortunate the customer is a really cool guy who had the know-how to wire it.

I have the Duncan chart printed out and hung on my wall!

I even have to have the chart for my own pickups or I sometimes forget what goes where as far as start and finish.

I use the same color coding. ...his wiring diagrams are a great reference as well.

Early on I decided to cop the SD color code just to make things easier for my clients when they look up wiring drawing on the web. I include this paper with every 4 wire pickup I sell and I keep it pinned up on my wall over my bench so I can remember how the stupid thing goes.
