  • Tube-buffer

Hello everyone, first post from me here.

I've been wanting to build a really rugged buffer for some time, using tubes. The 12AT7 / ECC81 has really excellent characteristics - max voltage swing of 10Volts on the input, and what I see as a theoretical input impedance of 10M Ohm. So that's good.

Now for my question; What kind of circuit should I base this buffer around? I've read The Valve Wizard's site, excellent reading: http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard/, but I'm unsure what to base it on.

Any help to a "tuub-noob" would be greatly appreciated!

    Kind regards, Jake

Maybe you should start with an application for your buffer. If I can assume you're a guitar player, you might consider looking for schematics of DI boxes which have many applications. Good assumption on the tube too, that being one that can operate with higher current levels as a line driver. My favorite is the 6SN7 but I'm nuts about octals.
Black sheep, black sheep, you got some wool?
Ya, I do man. My back is full.

Well, most folks will use the same type of triode as used in their preamp already. After all, it's only 1/2 of the same tube. However, I do have one layout I've yet to cobble up, that uses an EL84 as a buffer, in my 18 watt Blues style amp.
